The Poor Clare life is one devoted to prayer, giving oneself entirely to God and being consecrated for a life of:
- giving God worship and honor
- achieving an ever greater union with our Divine Spouse
- intercession for the needs of all people
These are practiced through a life of vowed poverty, chastity, obedience and enclosure, lived out in a close-knit community characterized by simplicity and joy.
The life is a paradox: in giving up ownership of everything we obtain all good things from God, to Whom everything in the universe belongs. We act as stewards over the corner of creation that He has put under our care, always mindful that we shall one day have to render an account.
In imitating the humble Christ we discover who we are before God: nothing, yet everything. He is our Father Who created us, our Brother who redeemed us, and the Spirit Who sanctifies us. Of ourselves we are nothing, but in the order of God's grace we are His adopted daughters, co-heirs with Christ, the King of the Universe! We must constantly come to know and realize this and learn to act accordingly, in graciousness and humility.
